FAQ

WHERE IS UXBRIDGE? 

Uxbridge is a town 70 km NE of Toronto. We offer a map and more specific directions HERE 

 

IS THERE PARKING? 

There are 6 venues associated with the festival. All of them have parking lots with the exception of Blue Heron Studio and Uxbridge Music Hall. For any events held at these venues, there is municipal parking across the street from Blue Heron Books and street parking available.  All parking is free. 

 

IS THE FESTIVAL WHEELCHAIR ACCESSIBLE? 

All venues are wheelchair accessible. As some of the venues are very old buildings space may be somewhat restricted. We do offer courtesy seating – for anyone with mobility challenges, physical disabilities, and hearing or vision issues.  If you have a particular concern, please call Blue Heron Books at 905-852-4282. 

 

DO I NEED TO BUY TICKETS TO ATTEND FESTIVAL EVENTS? 

As events tend to sell out, we highly recommend tickets in advance. However, if tickets are available, we will sell at the door. 

 

CAN I RESERVE A TICKET FOR AN EVENT? 

Due to capacity limits, we only accept pre-payment for tickets. Unfortunately, unless a ticket has been paid for in advance, your spot is not reserved. 

 

WHAT IS YOUR REFUND POLICY? 

Tickets are non-refundable but are transferable. If you are no longer able to attend an event, consider passing it along to a friend or family member. Since there are no physical tickets for events (with the exception of Matt Haig) please provide have your guest give your name at the door to avoid confusion. 

Please be aware that we have had issues in the past with resellers and bots selling fake tickets to our events. Please be very cautious if purchasing a reseller ticket from social media.

 

IS THERE EVER RESERVED SEATING? 

All events are General Admission, with the exception of the festival opener – Matt Haig at the Uxbridge Music Hall. Unfortunately, we are not able to guarantee or reserve seats together at any of the other events. 

 

CAN I BUY BOOKS? 

Yes, indeed! All authors’ books will be available at their event. All events are initially sold as book-in, with the book that the author is introducing that evening included in your ticket price. Signing is limited to those books included with the ticket or purchased at the event. 

 

WILL THERE BE ANY SOUVENIR MERCHANDISE FOR SALE? 

Yes! There will be Book Drunkard book bags, t-shirts, book lights, signs, patches, chocolate, socks, beer and cider! With the exception of the alcohol, all items will be on hand at each event of the festival and at Blue Heron Books all year round. The Cider House Rules (created for John Irving) is available at Slabtown Cider Co. starting in November. The ‘Maud’ cider (created to honour Lucy Maud Montgomery) is available at Banjo Cider, and The Book Drunkard beer at The Second Wedge. 

 

WHAT FORMS OF PAYMENT ARE ACCEPTED? 

All forms of payment are accepted.

Volunteers are always welcome! If you are interested, please contact Blue Heron Books at 905-852-4282. 

 

COULD I BE CONSIDERED AS AN AUTHOR/PRESENTER? 

The festival line-up is a highly curated one and is established well in advance of the announcement of the lineup. We work closely with our publisher partners to ensure the program is balanced and appealing to all. 

 

MAY I GET FOOD OR DRINKS AT EVENTS? 

Food is included in the ticket price for most of the events and is a full meal in the case of the brunch events. All evening events have a bar service and also offer snacks or meals in addition to what is included in your ticket price.  It is best to call the venue ahead to ensure that your specific needs will be met.
