The Book Drunkard Literary Festival

About the Festival

Putting Uxbridge on the literary map in Canada is not a stretch for 30-year-old Uxbridge mainstay, Blue Heron Books. The store is long accustomed to bringing first-class literary talent to Durham Region.  Former Durham resident, Lucy Maud Montgomery once quipped, “I am simply a book drunkard” — relatable words for readers and writers. The festival captures the wonderment of the written word and its ability to intoxicate, transport and transform. Meant for all ages and myriad tastes, the festival features literary legends and musical masters in stellar venues, like the century-old Uxbridge Music Hall and the top-notch Wooden Sticks Golf Club. Inspiration starts young with exceptional author events at the Blue Heron Studio as well as local schools. The Second Wedge Brewing Co. opens its doors to an on-tap, toe-tapping music/adventure event. Creativity blossoms in writing workshops in the Blue Heron Studio. Foodie events, featuring a renowned chef/cookbook author and a meal, will be hosted by fabulous Feast-ON restaurant The Urban Pantry. There’s even some thought-provoking theatre. In a ‘nod to Maud,’ a panel discussion event and cocktail party celebrates the renowned L.M. Montgomery at her former home in Leaskdale. And a ‘Get Lit on the Trails’ family day takes the written word outside.
