Attendees joined Lauren B. Davis in conversation with Kerry Clare about Even So and the challenge and necessity of loving difficult people.

Even So is the story of what happens when compassion and passion collide. Love, faith, lust, guilt, redemption, and the moment of transformation of two women, one a privileged Princeton matron, the other a Catholic nun suffering the silence of god.

Lauren B. Davis is the author of The Grimoire of Kensington Market, Against a Darkening Sky, The Empty Room, Our Daily Bread, and The Radiant City. She has been longlisted for the Giller Prize and the ReLit Awards, and shortlisted for the Writers’ Trust Fiction Prize. Lauren lives in Princeton, New Jersey.

Kerry Clare’s first novel, Mitzi Bytes, was called “entertaining, engaging and timely” by the Toronto Star, who also noted that it “heralds the arrival of a fantastic, fun new novelist on the Canadian scene.” She is editor of The M Word: Conversations About Motherhood, a National Magazine Award-nominated essayist, and editor of Canadian books website 49thShelf.com. She writes about books and reading at her popular blog, Pickle Me This and lives in Toronto with her family.

In Even So Angela has it all: a wealthy husband, an adoring son and a satisfying volunteer position- but she’s willing to risk everything after meeting Carsten, the landscaper with the glacier-blue eyes…

Sister Eileen struggles with the silence of God and harbours a secret she believes is unforgivable. She yearns to convince Angela she is loved by God, but in order for that to be authentic Eileen must learn to love her first, and that’s no easy task — especially after Angela causes a terrible tragedy. Angela and Eileen discover how caring for the most difficult among us and practising forgiveness, no matter how painful, opens a door to the miracle of transformation.

Attendees joined Lauren B. Davis and Kerry Clare for an afternoon chat on November 13th at 2 pm.

Tickets included a copy of Even So.
